Summary

Operates various equipment and assists with various duties involved in and the maintenance and construction of city water system components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates various equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, including backhoe, tamper machine, front-end loader, shovel, and dump truck;
  • Assists in the construction of water system components, including laying water lines, installing water meters, and installing water taps;
  • Assists in the maintenance of water system components, including repairing water line leaks, replacing water meters and meter boxes, checking water pressure, and checking and maintaining fire hydrants;
  • Sets up and removes road barricades as necessary; and
  • Cleans and maintains yard and shop.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This is a non-supervisory position.

Education and/or Experience

High school graduation or its equivalent plus one year of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge Of

Safe and effective equipment operation practices and procedures; and standard office practices and procedures.

Skill/Ability To

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; communicate effectively; safely operate heavy and light equipment; and read and understand manuals, policies, and other documents.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Class B Texas commercial driver's license (B CDL).
