Summary
Maintains and cleans city animal shelter including cleaning of animal holding facilities; feeding and watering animals; exercising animals; and assists with animal adoptions when necessary.
WEEKEND POSITION - Normal hours of 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM Saturday & 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Sunday - Less than 20 hours per week
The Pay Rate for this position is $15.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains clean animal enclosures, runs, treatment and holding areas to ensure a safe and healthy disease-free facility;
- Performs daily housekeeping and maintenance tasks including, but not limited to; collecting and disposal of general and animal waste, sweeping/mopping floors, washing and drying towels, blankets, bowls and toys, wiping down and disinfecting all surfaces with a variety of chemical and detergent products;
- Precisely measures, prepares and distributes animal feedings based on weight and schedule;
- Provides water, walking breaks and facilitates exercise for shelter animals;
- Reports inventory needs to the supervisor; and
- Assists shelter staff with adoptions and adoption events.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This is a non-supervisory position.

Education and/or Experience
High school graduation or its equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in animal handling, vet office, or boarding facility preferred.
Knowledge Of
Animal behavior; standard office practices and procedures; and facility maintenance practices and procedures.
Skill/Ability To
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; communicate effectively; apply safety standards to prevent hazards; tolerate adverse working conditions; understand and follow instructions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Texas driver's license, or reliable means of transportation to and from work.
